Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: We all probably have multiple WiPs, but which of yours has been hanging around longest, waiting to be finished?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

just as say before , this is not certain measurable test . kossai is not very good at how to word musical tropes and techniques , but through musicians that feel confident to label as machine gen - with basis of presence and history - try to learn some possible flags of identification in non-vocal music .

one of most obvious in that post , which might as well just copy and paste here :
song names seem to mean nothing .
this will be kind of subjective , different people take different words in different directions , but musicians of particular style usually have some kinds of tropes for particular words . if twinkle do not twinkle and jazz do not jazz , real person might not have creative control here .

some other ones which notice :
songs start , continue , or cut off suddenly - even mid-phrase .
might reach phrase that feel like natural point to stop , only for song to just ... continue . other times , feel like song did not properly finish , but just suddenly over . occasionally , will even notice songs where last notes just cut off outright . this can happen with start of songs too , just jump right into highest energy without any buildup or moments of quiet . which bring to continuation :

songs lack payoff and satisfaction .

these songs meander - might sound superficially epic and grandiose , high energy and fun , or so on , but hard to pinpoint key moments , motifs , or any consistent musical language . this can make songs feel forgettable , even moment to moment - sound more like exist just to play in background , where never pay any real attention to technique or sound , hence why say brain popcorn vibes . similar to corporate mysic in that way , actually .

bear in mind of course , to some extent these things can also happen among musicians who :
struggle with technique or software ,
have no formal knowledge in given cultural music theory ,
try to work through burnout or time crunch ,
work under specific restrictive formula ,
or explicitly experiment and improvise .

definitely look out for history and presence before assume anything for sure . would say if ever want to dig in , kossai is confident anything under name of bruce alan marcom is machine gen , and probably also fairycorn records .

Today was warm and muggy.  It stormed midday, then cleared up somewhat later.

I fed the birds.

I put out water for the birds.

At dusk, loads of fireflies are coming out.  :D  I've seen at least one bat too.

Hi, [community profile] everykindofcraft! I'm excited about this community because I am a "every kind of craft"-er! I love trying new crafts. Right now, I am teaching myself how to cross-stitch:
UFO (cross stitch)
My go-to, however, is always crochet:
Paloma's crochet project
As much as I love crochet, it's hard on my hands - I have chronic pain and already require regular nerve block injections in my dominant hand to keep it functional. I tried cross stitch because I thought it might be easier on my thumbs/wrists.

What are your favorite low spoons crafts?

Today is partly sunny, steamy, and hot.

I fed the birds.  Sparrows and house finches have been all over the feeders today.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 6/17/25 -- I checked the grass patch by the garden shed.  Something had eaten about half the seedling clover.  :/  So I sowed more Bee Lawn Mix, watered that, and watered the recently planted wild indigo.

EDIT 6/17/25 -- I took some pictures around the yard.

My wildflower garden is swarming with baby praying mantises, at least two hatches.  I've seen a tiny brown one and a slightly larger green one.  :D

I've seen a mourning dove in the forest garden.

EDIT 6/17/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 6/17/25 -- I picked a bag of mulberries along the street and in the savanna.

Fireflies are coming out.

EDIT 6/17/25 -- I trimmed low-hanging branches in the house yard.

I hauled a large branch to the ritual meadow and broke it up for the firepit.

My partner Doug has mowed the ritual meadow.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Yay new crafting community!

I just started getting into bookbinding / fanbinding. I got really into it conceptually a couple years ago and bought all the supplies but didn't really do anything with them until now. I've been using Renegade Bindery's formatting tutorials and Sea Lemon's binding tutorials. It is tremendously fun. I've done the first couple (Fairgoers by renwhit and a collection of King Falls AM fics) with quilting cotton + heatnbond + tissue paper for book cloth, but I recently got a bunch of leather for free, so I may start experimenting with leather covers too using Ingenius Designs' tutorials.

On my docket is
- "mulberry down!!" by Nicole Kornher Stace, already printed and sewn with book cloth prepped, needs edge sanding
- "Ceylon, Assam, and Darjeeling" by Sciosa, currently working on formatting
- Something that will allow me to do a wacky patchwork style cover using scrap fabric sticking to the heatnbond to avoid having to sew it
- Working on figuring out iron-on page gilding. Probably needs edge sanding first as the unsanded paperback I tried it on didn't adhere evenly though the tiny iron helped.
- Acquire acid-free paper for prints going forward

last time , talk about bruce alan marcom . but this one might be more interest !

so here is thing - recently come across elowen fae , which link to the soul of wind ... as do many other apparent musicians . this perplex kossai . of those musicians , some do seem to be legitimate people with legitimate history , namely bigricepiano and tsuyun . but many others lack any history or presence elsewhere , and not older than 2023 - which coincide with release of suno .

the soul of wind main channel seem to have history back to 2014 , as channel where create ambient mixes of either personal compositions , or royalty free music that already exist . but more recently , this channel claim to be music label - did try to look on wayback machine to see if this ever change , but can not get to load , so that will have to be bust for now .

what really stump is that unsure who make this channel , and thus , what this situation is .
did this composer get burnout with this stream of uploads , and hide machine gen works behind false names ?
do this composer not care who contribute to label , even while others like bigricepiano proud to label work as no AI ?
is this composer even still on board anymore , or do this name belong to someone else now ?
could all of these people be genuine , legitimate musicians , even when just happen to appear like machine gen ? ( hahahahaha . )

still not really sure how to consistently identify machine gen music by sound - sort of just look for " brain popcorn vibes " at moment , but just vibes can not be hard and fast rule . but , do have another post on red flags with regards to channel history and presentation .

Birds and turtle eggs

I'm still seeing continuing Red Bellied and Downy Woodpeckers on my suet feeders.

Over the weekend, I attempted to expand my garden.  Much to my surprise, I turned up several intact turtle eggs in the soil.   So I immediately reburied them and attempted to fence off the area to protect them.   Every year the raccoons seem to get to the eggs so I hope I can save them.  We shall see!

I also saw a female deer in the woods, the first I've seen in a while.  We have several chipmunks around as well as a stray or dumped house cat who seems to come out every morning.

I know there are many crafters on Dreamwidth but it seems nothing devoted to it has been updated in eons or has no admin or both. So I decided to open [community profile] everykindofcraft  for what it says in the name. A community where people can share their projects, either in process or completed, as well as ask for assistance with craft-related things.

Do you make crafts? Do you like to look at crafts? Would you like to get (or give) advice about crafts? All crafts are welcome. Share photos, stories about projects in progress, and connect with other crafty folks.

You are welcome to make your own posts, and this community will also do a monthly call for people to share what they are working on, or what they've seen which may be inspiring them. Images of projects old or new, completed or in progress are welcome, as are questions, tutorials and advice.

Just a few rules:

1. Be polite
2. If you are sharing images, please resize them so that they are no wider than 700 pixels.
3. If you are sharing multiple images, please add a cut tag after the first one.
4. If your post needs a tag that's not available, please use the "tag needed" tag.

If you have any questions, ask them here!

holy shit please watch this .
OK , well , those who never watch winx will have absolutely no context on this ... how to explain .

after basic magic winx and charmix powerup , enchantix was first actual separate form for characters . this come with entirely new sequences and outfits :

these enchantix forms also extremely emotional , as need to earn through some form of sacrifice , hardship , and character development as such . enchantix also function as sort of transition into adulthood - before nickelodeon swoop in , characters did actually age with each season , so characters start to turn 18 , or 19 for stella . for this reason , there is definitely something of mature , ethereal air to these transformations . absolutely beautiful , but in some ways that can sort of hinder little personality quirks and playfulness - not to even start on aisha , who get sequence of least length and detail .

then there was believix . while enchantix root in worlds of magic dimension and demand heroic sacrifices , believix is about ... well , belief in fairies . so believix root in earth , where people largely no longer believe in magic or fairies . these outfits take on cute , casual tones , to better reflect earth setting - and unlike enchantix , everyone get to be playful and fun ! enchantix feel like this serious transition into adulthood , believix feel like realisation that maybe not so much is different after all , in best ways .

so like ... really feel something special to see someone work hard at this project , put together beauty of enchantix forms with playfulness of believix . description state this project take years , and can understand why !
